I handle the FAQ and after-sales side of customer support for small online brands and a couple of university bookstores. The setup deflects the routine questions, order status, sizing, return windows, and only escalates the ones that need a person, so a small support team can keep up during the semester rush. I lean on tools the client already has, an existing Shopify app or Intercom plus an OpenAI layer, rather than pushing a rebuild. Calm about scope, and I will tell you when a feature is not worth the cost.
